THE EARLY YEARS
Born February 26, 1945, Jimmy (Bell) Ellis was adopted and raised in Orrville, Alabama. In high school his teachers encouraged him to sing for the school's "Religious Emphasis Week," leading him to enter his first talent contest in 1963.
** First official show 1963 **
He was a winner in the weekly competition, and soon moved on to an Amateur Hour show on television. He didn't win but that gave him the desire to try again.

** First Record recorded 1964 **

** First Record label DRADCO **

The next year, he recorded a record called:

Don't Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch/Love Is But a Love, for the Dradco label. It got some air play from a few radio stations around Alabama and Georgia. His parents refused an offer from Capricorn Records because they wanted him to go to college. He won a baseball scholarship to attend Livingston University, which he did for three years.
